I have never done the networking with windows/samba myself.

You could just run a ftp server when needed on your linux machine and ftp the files across on your local network which should be quite fast.

Recently saw this 400 GB harddrive
(hitachi deskstar 7k400).
http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/desk/7k400.html

I would like to add one in a new machine setup as a system like MythTV
http://www.mythtv.org/modules.php?name=MythFeatures

and then add in my movies etc I have downloaded so I could easily select from them to watch on my TV.
Plus i would have other recording capabilites etc.

However how do you backup the data against corruption/accidental erasure on a harddrive?

another harddrive, tapes?

thanks

Could back up data with software RAID but cuts storage in half...
